Experienced poverty at firsthand during a three year work assignment at a farm in Long County, Shaanxi Province;
Provided medical and caring assistance in Long County, Shaanxi Province;
Developed close relationships with many members of the population in what is one of China’s poorest and least developed areas;
Ten years experience as a policewoman at the Shaanxi Province Prison Bureau, during which time she saw the misery of the convicts’ children on a personal level;
Graduate of the Chinese Literature Professional Writers Class at Northwest University. Created one feature length movie and five television drama series. In 1991, her series “Special Battlefront” was broadcast on the national channel CCTV as well as another 20 local TV stations. Her movie won the “White Crane Award” in 1986, and a further television series won the “Golden Sword Award” in 1993. Shuqin was awarded the “Zhuang Zhongliang Wen Literature Prize” in 1989 and the Xi’an “Hailongwang Cup Female Writer Prize” in 1995; and
Philanthropic advocate who has experience in fund raising. Since May 1996, Shuqin has established six Children’s Villages for the children of convicts. Over the course of the last ten years, she has helped over 800 children between the ages of one to eighteen.
