• Over the last ten years, the Sun Village has helped over 800 children of convicts.
  • Currently, around 115 children between the ages of one to eighteen reside at the Beijing Sun Village. The children come from all over China;
  • The Shaanxi Xi’an Children’s Village plays host to some 63 children;
  • The Henan Xinxiang Children’s Village hosts 20 children and can accommodate up to 40 children by the end of the year;
  • The Long County Shelter in Shaanxi hosts 22 children, and will accommodate as many as 40 by the end of the year.

To date, there are 4 Children’s Villages under the umbrella of Beijing Sun Village, including the organization’s headquarters. Together the 4 organizations are helping over 200 children.

 

1996
Ms. Shuqin Zhang established the first Children’s Village for children of convicts in Sanyuan Village of Dongzhou, Shaanxi Province.

1996- 1999
Ms. Zhang set up three Children’s Villages in Shaanxi, which were later merged as the Children’s Village of Xi’an, Shaanxi.

December 2000
The Beijing Model Children’s Village was established with the support of the China Charity Foundation.

August 2003
The Beijing Model Children’s Village was registered as a legal entity and renamed the Beijing Sun Village Research Institute for Helping Special Children.

May 2005
The Beijing Sun Village Research Institute for Helping Special Children was renamed the Beijing Sun Village Children Education Centre.

The Children’s Village of Xinxiang, Henan Province, was established with the support of the Women’s Prison of Henan河南新乡儿童村在河南女子监狱的支持下举行了开村仪式;

The Long County Orphanage of Shaanxi Province was established with the support of the government of Long County .
