Shuqin Zhang was a C lass One supervisor at prisons. She was also a journalist focusing on prisons. Through various interviews, she realizes that numerous children have become orphan s after their parents were convicted . These children are begging, being tortured as well as threatened by hunger, disease and death. Some even follow their parents' path in be coming criminals. As a mother, Shuqin pained to see these children without homes, discriminated orphan s being neglected by the society.

Shuqin also hopes convicts can be relieved regarding their children during their imprisonment. S he also wants all these children of convicts can grow healthily instead of becoming the burden of the society. D espite facing intense pressure, Shuqin establish ed the first children's village in Shaanxi in 1996 to educate and look after a number of children of convicts. With the dedication of Shuqin and the support of local and overseas patrons, six children's villages have been established in Shaanxi, Beijing and Henan between 1996 and 2005 , helping over 800 children of convicts at present .
